“All In”…Howard agrees to stay in Orlando

As first reported on Twitter (I know, I know) by Christian Bruey [1] of WFTV Channel 9 in Orlando:

My source has just told me that Dwight told the team he is going to opt in for the final year of his contract. @wftvsports [2] @chris_broussard [3]

So after months of flip flopping Howard will play out his contract. I know the Orlando media must be pulling out their hair as this just means the “Decision 2″ is likely on the way for the Summer of 2013.

Sarcasm aside Orlando again becomes a major player before tomorrow’s trade deadline.

With Monta Ellis off the board, the Magic are rumored to be looking at Michael Beasley and Josh Smith as potential upgrades to their roster.  Beasley is linked to multiple teams (Lakers, Celtics, and Magic) and Atlanta’s owner has no interest in trading Smith to their division rival.

Smith and Howard are very good friends but it is unlikely they will get to share their camaraderie in the same locker room this season.

Orlando may switch gears and approach Golden State about acquiring Stephen Jackson who was traded to them yesterday.  Jackson does not fit into the tank it mode the Warriors seem to be adopting and would likely do more harm than good in Golden State.

Meanwhile Otis Smith and Stan Van Gundy get to keep their jobs for now. They should still be able to put something on their resume for avoiding disaster this season. I know I would.

The saga continues despite a resolution of sorts for now.
