On the first day of free agency the Redskins are already being very aggressive, despite having half the $$ available in their salary cap because of the uncapped 2010 season and front-loading contracts.
The Redskins have signed WR Josh Morgan, formerly of the 49ers, to a 5 year $12 over the first 2 years ($7.5 million guaranteed and the last 3 can be voided). Morgan’s stats: 131 catches, 9 TDs, 13.5 yard average in 4 years with 49ers. Last October he broke his right leg. Morgan was born in DC.
They have signed WR Pierre Garcon, formerly of the Colts, to another 5 year contract for $42.5 million, $20.5 million guaranteed, including an $11 million signing bonus. Garcon’s stats: 188 catches for 16 TDs, 13.4 yard average in his 4 years with Colts. Last year he had 70 receptions, 6 TDs for 947 yards.
They have also re-signed DE Adam Carriker to a 4 year contract for $20 million.
The Redskins are also talking with Bronco’s WR Eddie Royal. Royal was born in Alexandria, VA.
As for cuts, the Redskins have released S Oshiomogho Atogwe (the only Canadian on the team) and FB Mike Sellers.
About the Author
Written by Mercedes Green
I lived in Greene County Virginia for about 5 years of my childhood. This span of time was enough to imprint the love of the Washington Redskins (and hate of the Dallas Cowboys) into my life forever, even though I am Canadian and still live in Canada. I am in no way an expert on sports, football, or even the Redskins, but I do absolutely adore them, their fans and their home state(s). My favourite Redskin is and will always be Darrell Green (not because we share the same last name lol). I've adored Chris Cooley since he joined the team from the 2004 draft and love London Fletcher. Hail to the Redskins! See you October 30th in my home town of Toronto.
