In life you have to “Roll The Dice”. The Nets, Dwight Howard and the Magic are finding this out as they are all taking a “big” gamble as the Trade Deadline approaches Thursday at 3pm EST.
I thought of THREE possible scenarios that could affect the Nets by Thursday’s trade deadline.
1. NETS trade for Dwight Howard.
PRO: This is the best possible situation for the Nets. The Magic will have to be convinced to do so, but if it happens. Howard would finally be in a Nets uniform. Jersey would also be able to re-sign D-Will this summer and have the two cornerstones to lead them to their move to Brooklyn in October.
CON: The Nets would have to give up players like Brook Lopez or Marshon Brooks plus some 1st round draft picks in order to get Howard.
2. Howard chooses to stay in Orlando.
PRO: The only good news for the Nets, if this happens is that can “try” and sign Howard as a free agent in the summer of 2013.
CON: This is the worst possible news for the Nets. If Howard stays in Orlando, then the Nets will lose out on getting him by the trade deadline or this summer. This could lead D-Will to leave for another team after July 1st. This“doomsday” scenario will have the Nets moving to Brooklyn without a “superstar”, hence leaving our team as favorites for the Atlantic Division cellar.
3. Howard chooses to leave Orlando, as a free agent.
PRO: This “gamble” could end up being a great move for the Nets. In this scenario, if they can get Howard as a free agent this summer. Re-sign Williams and make enough cap room to re-sign Lopez. The Nets will be able to keep their “core” roster together. Howard, Williams, Lopez, Brooks plus two 1st round draft picks will instantly make the Nets a “threat” in the Eastern Conference.
CON: Even though, Howard would become a free agent it’s no guarantee that the Nets will sign DH. The Mavs, Lakers & countless other teams will try to “steal” DH away. Given his nature, the Nets can’t bank on DH being 100% sure on what he will do until his name signed on the dotted line.
Life is a “gamble”. The Nets, Magic and Dwight Howard are playing a high stakes game in which one team will win the prize of number 12′s services and the other team will be stuck trying to figure out to what to do next.
