Fun, crazy win for Blazers

The Blazers had all the makings to put another notch in the loss column. They shot 37% as a team from the field. Just 67% at the line. Wesley Matthews and Jamal Crawford combined to shoot 3 for 22… 13.6%! But the Blazers were playing the new look Golden State Warriors who Las Vegas likes even less, as they had Portland 10 point favorites.

Golden State shot a tad better than Portland at 43% for the game. However, the Blazers also forced them into 15 turnovers, versus Portland’s seven. A young team like Golden State really thrives on getting in the passing lanes and getting easy buckets from turnovers. The Blazers did a great job of taking care of the ball. Something that doesn’t always seem to be a big focus for them as of late.

And how about Raymond “clutch” Felton?! Never thought I would say that, and probably still shouldn’t, but down the stretch he hit multiple baskets including two threes when Portland needed them most. He finished with a team high 24 points on 9-17 shooting. LaMarcus Aldridge didn’t have his greatest game, but he went to his patented turnaround fade away jumper and hit it to go ahead with 39.9 seconds left. He would finish with 18 points, while Nicolas Batum contributed with 17 points.

For the Warriors, it seemed to be a one man show as Charles Jenkins, who is averaging just 2.8 points per game this season, played out of his mind. He had 13 points and did not miss in the first quarter. He didn’t stop there as he finished with 27 points, just barely eclipsing his season average (ha!). It was pretty unbelievable. I simultaneously kept yelling at the tv “who is this guy?” and “why can absolutely no one guard him?”. It was just one of those nights, I guess, where the point guards scored crazy above average.

However, as I have said many times before, winning the game maybe isn’t the best thing for the Blazers. Actually, it just straight up isn’t a good thing. Are they going to make the playoffs? No. And being a mediocre team that hovers around the eighth spot but eventually falls short, is the absolute worst position an NBA team can be in. I’m not too worried though. It was the Warriors. The Blazers are due a lot more losses before this season comes to an end. So I guess enjoy the win tonight. It was fun to watch to be sure.
