Probably the biggest week in Bills history since Drew Bledsoe came to town in 2002? Ralph Wilson had opened up his pocket book and is ready to spend all his money in hopes Buffalo makes the playoffs before it’s too late. He had this to say about the Williams signing, “I’d like to see us make the playoffs and possibly the Super Bowl while I’m around,” Wilson told the Buffalo News. He goes on to say “I didn’t give a darn about the money, I can’t take the money with me. The money had nothing to do with it.”
He kept true to his word later that week and signed DE Mark Anderson to a 4 year, 27.5 million dollar contract, and re-signed safety Bryan Scott. The Williams signing seems to have made Buffalo a hot spot to play ball and hopefully they can land a few other puzzle pieces to this team making them contenders. I hope a corner is next on the list.
What will they do now in the draft?? Any thoughts?
With the recent big free agent signing, I take a look back at the top 5 Buffalo Bills Free Agent Signing.
5. Ryan Fitzpatrick:
Although he has yet to bring us to the promise land, he has been a bright light for the Bills the last 2 years. If he can get us to the playoff, he might have a chance to move up my list. But for now..FEAR THE BEARD!
4. Bryce Paup:
1995 defensive player of the year! Although he only played a few years with Buff, he was able to accumulate 33 sacks in those years and was certainly something to be feared.
3. Rian Lindell:
What a disaster the Bills kicking was after Stevie Christie, remember these guys: Shayne Graham, Jake Airans, Mike Hollis, Brandon Coutu and Dave Rayner? Exactly! Rian Lindell gave Bills fans some sense of relief when it came to field goals.
2. Doug Flutie:
It took him 10 years between starting an NFL game, but the Bills game him that shot and fans loved him. I’m still left wondering if the Buffalo could have won their last playoff game against Tennessee if they would have started Flutes. My box of Flutie Flakes still sits on the bar at home in hopes to be eaten the next time they make the playoffs. I’m a little afraid though.
So he has yet to play one game for Buffalo, but the impact that he has brought to the town and team is hard to ignore. He has brought hope and a sparks that’s been missing in decades. If he ends up being a bust, he will then be featured in my Top 5 free agent bust list, but for now Super Mario is number one on my list and number one in our hearts!
