After a tough overtime loss a couple nights ago. the Rockets were back in action Monday night hosting the Sacramento Kings. It was a homecoming for Chuck Hayes as well as Terrence Williams who was waived by Houston shortly after the trade deadline, and signed by the Kings last week.

Houston scored the first bucket of the game, but after that it was all downhill. The Rockets looked like zombies out on the court and quickly fell into a 16 point deficit, committing 6 turnovers in the first 6 minutes of the game. However, after having their worst performance of the season Saturday night, Houston’s bench came in and provided a small, but much needed lift. Slowly and steadily the Rockets cut into Sacramento’s lead.

A familiar tale as of late, the Rockets found themselves trailing late in the 4th quarter down 90-82 with just over 5 minutes to play in the game. Once again Houston made a run, and Goran Dragic found Patrick Patterson for a 20 foot jumper with 9 seconds left to tie the game and send it to overtime for the second straight game.

In the extra session, Houston finally began to play well and took an early 5 point lead, but took a huge blow when Goran Dragic turned his ankle and looked to be in immense pain. Veteran PG Earl Boykins, whom the Rockets signed to a 10-day contract an hour before the game, was subbed in and hit 4 clutch free throws in the final 20 seconds to ice yet another come from behind win for the Rockets.

This win however came at a hefty price. Houston plays in Dallas tomorrow in another pivotal game for the Western Conference playoff race, and everybody was hoping for a game where Houston would jump out to an early lead and be able to rest their starters. This was obviously not the case. Also, not only was Goran Dragic injured, but Marcus Camby also left the game earlier due to left wrist injury. Both players’  X-Rays came back negative, and after the game both players said they expect to play tomorrow night in Dallas.

The Rockets now start a crucial stretch of games that could play a big part in deciding this team’s playoff fate. After the game in Dallas tomorrow Houston will host Memphis Friday night and Indiana on Sunday before hitting the road to take on Chicago and the Lakers. The only good thing about this stretch is that these games 5 games take place over a span of 11 days which should give the Rockets plenty of rest heading into the last few weeks of the season.
