Derrick Rose missed his eighth straight game due to a groin injury but that did not keep the Bulls from improving to 13-5 on the season without the reigning MVP. The Bulls beat the Hawks 98-77 in an effort that was led by Luol Deng with 22 points, Carlos Boozer with 20 points, and Taj Gibson who contributed 19 points off of the bench. Joakim Noah also had a solid game with 10 points and 8 rebounds and John Lucas was able to come off the bench and put up 10 points and dish out 5 assists. The three point shot was a big key to the Bulls winning this game by twenty one points as they shot over 56% from three point land, 9-16, while the Hawks shot just over 29%, 5-17. Luol Deng had an excellent shooting night from behind the arc going 5-8 and John Lucas was 2-3 so they were the main keys to the Bulls success from deep. Aside from the good three point shooting this victory once again was made possible by the Bulls stingy defense and top defense as far as points allowed. The Bulls effort on defense and their ability to limit free throw attempts, the Hawks only had 9 attempts to the Bulls 20 attempts, has been a key to their success all year with their superior rebounding ability and these factors keep helping the Bulls to victory even without Derrick Rose.
The Bulls improved to 41-11 on the year after this victory and with only fourteen games left in the regular season the Bulls need to hope for Derrick Rose to return to health and lead this team into and through the playoffs. Rose has struggled with this groin injury and hopefully he can return to full health or at least 90% come playoff time because the Bulls record may be good without him right now but this is the regular season, not the playoffs.
