As the next chapter of Nets history is set to begin in Brooklyn next season. I would like to select the BEST players to ever lace ‘em up in New Jersey.
Here is my All-Time New Jersey Nets Team:
PG: Jason Kidd – This future Hall of Famer lead the Nets to two consecutive NBA Finals appearances. J-Kidd was able to turn this franchise from a laughing stock to the Eastern Conference Champions. In my opinion, Kidd is the BEST baller to ever play in New Jersey.
Bench – Deron Williams, Kenny Anderson
SG: Drazen Petrovic – This sharpshooter became a NBA star during his short time with the Nets. Petro’s infectious play was beloved by his teammates & fans. Despite his untimely death, Drazen left many Nets fans with fond memories of his incredible play & his passion for the game.
Bench – Michael Ray Richardson, Stephen Jackson
SF: Bernard King – This Brooklyn native was a scoring machine in his prime. King set a Nets record for points in a season (1,909). Bernard made the 1985 All-Star team & he was also selected as a 1st team All-NBA player twice during his playing days in New Jersey.
Bench – Vince Carter, Richard Jefferson
PF: Charles “Buck” Williams – Number #52 played the game with a quiet intensity that Nets fans truly admired for eight seasons. Buck won the 1982 Rookie of the Year award averaging 15.5 pts & 12.3 rebs a game. Williams is still the Nets all-time leader in points, rebounds, rebounds per game & free throws made.
Bench – Darryl Dawkins, Derrick Coleman
C: Jayson Williams – This scrappy, undersized center worked his way into the starting lineup & took full advantage by becoming one of the best rebounders in the NBA. Jayson became a NBA All-Star in 1998 before a leg injury cut his career short in 1999. Williams is currently serving six years in prison for manslaughter.
Bench – Alonzo Mourning, Dikembe Mutombo
Head Coach: Byron Scott – This former Lakers great guided the Nets to consecutive NBA Finals appearances in 2001-02 & 2002-03. Scott’s “Showtime” type of style infected his teams as they captured their two Eastern Conference titles & a franchise record 52 wins in 2001-02.
Assistant Coaches – Chuck Daly, Larry Brown
Nets fans should feel proud that we got too witness some of the greatest players & coaches to ever step on a basketball court play for our team, wear our uniform & call New Jersey home!
Thanks for the Memories!!!
