Blazers win! Houston Loses! Playoffs still possible??

The Blazers sure aren’t making it easy for me to blog about them. I have been preaching for a while now that losing is best if you are a Blazer fan. Well, I’m giving up on that, at least for tonight’s blog, because I think I can see the playoffs from here! Granted they are barely visible, and it’s probably just a figment of my imagination, but I swear I can see the playoffs. Houston was kind enough to lose tonight, and with a win over the Minnesota Timberwolves the Blazers could jump to within three games of that coveted eighth and final playoff spot.
Portland did just that by winning 119-106. This was one of those games where it seemed to always be within 10 points, and neither team went on too many runs. The Blazers played loose and with a lot of confidence as they lead basically wire to wire. The two All-Stars in LaMarcus Aldridge and Kevin Love both lead their respective teams, but cancelled each other out in the process. Aldridge had 26 points on 10-17 shooting and 8 rebounds (can he please get double digit rebounds more consistently?), while Love went for 26 points on 7-16 shooting with 9 rebounds. Crazy similar stat lines right?
The difference came down to Nicolas Batum playing like he’s capable of. He scored 24 points and shot 4-9 from downtown including a rare four-point play. When Batum gets into these types of grooves like he was tonight he plays like an elite player. I don’t know what it is, but some games I have to purposely look for him and make sure he’s on the court playing. If he could become more consistent, and the Blazers can keep a hold of him, I think there is a bright future with him being a great third option (Aldridge being the second option and Portland needs to bring in someone to be the main offensive option).
It was truly fun watching Portland tonight. Yes, they were playing a beaten up Minnesota team, but if they can lock in and always play this way maybe the fat lady hasn’t sung yet. They have been playing pretty good as of late. Maybe, if everything falls Portland’s way, and we all wear our same lucky game-day underwear, there is a chance we catch that final postseason spot. Three games back with 13 to go. Stranger things have happened.
