IT’S NOT TOO SOON TO PANIC

Posted By Sean Eckhardt On Apr 2 2012 @ 12:42 am In Miami Heat | No Comments

Panic is not always a bad word.  The Miami Heat shouldn’t be afraid of panic, they should be scared by the idea of complacency.  On Sunday, they were completely dominated by an allegedly decrepit Boston Celtics team.  Miami, who cruised by the Celts rather easily in a 4-1 series win in the 2011 playoffs, look older, and once again they appeared tired, or disengaged, or both.  Losing on the road to a good team is one thing, but being throttled 91-72 by an inferior team, one that also happens to be a big rival, is inexcusable.

There was only one “Big 3″ on display on Sunday and that was the original version, starring Ray Allen, Kevin Garnett, and Paul Pierce.  Ray Allen didn’t even play due to an ankle injury.  Of course, this trio has been a quartet for a few years since the rise of Rajon Rondo, who recorded a triple-double against Miami in the game.  Yes this was a bad loss that really makes you question whether or not the Heat will have what it takes come June, the real question is how can Coach Spoelstra fix it?

I think a novel idea would be benching LeBron, Wade, and Bosh, not just for a few minutes, but for a few games.  Let them sit there helplessly and watch guys like Shane Battier, Udonis Haslem, and Norris Cole fight to win games.  You have to remember something; athletes like these have never had to sit and watch, unless they have been hurt.  Maybe this would give them a new perspective.  The worst thing that could happen would be they would lose a few games in a short time span.  Oh wait, that’s already happened.  In fact, Miami has lost 7 of their last 10 on the road.

The Heat have two tough home games coming up with the 76er’s on Tuesday night and the Thunder on Wed.  They shouldn’t have to find motivation to win those games.  Then again, they shouldn’t have had to search for that same thing when they traveled to Boston.
