Battle of L.A. Part III: Kings of The City

The Los Angeles Lakers are still the “Kings of LA”, defeating the Los Angeles Clippers 113-108 last night in their final meeting of the regular season, winning the season series 2-1.
The Lakers, fresh off of a victory over the New Jersey Nets (91-87) on Tuesday night, saw the return of big man Andrew Bynum, after sitting out against the Nets, due to suffering an ankle sprain in Sunday’s game against the Golden State Warriors. Bynum bounced back in dominant fashion, scoring 36 points, with 8 rebounds and 4 blocks against the Clippers, while his ankle injury looked more like a mere mirage, rather than an actual occurrence.
Kobe Bryant closed the Clips out by hitting a big shot with under 30 seconds left in the ball game that put the Lakers up by four points. For the game, The Black Mamba had an efficient shooting night, going 13-of-19 from the field, scoring 31 points, to go along with 6 assists and 5 rebounds. Ramon Sessions had another solid game, scoring 16 points, and totaling up 8 assists.
Pau Gasol on the other hand, had a game to forget. Besides his mediocre output (by his standards of course) of 12 points, and 7 rebounds that were very much needed to win last night’s ball game, I’m pretty sure he would like to forget how the Clippers’ Blake Griffin, “dunked on his life” twice in Wednesday’s matchup, adding him to a long list of victims.
If the playoffs were to start today, the unlikely possibility of a “Hallway Series” between these two teams wouldn’t take place, unless they happen to meet up in the Western Conference Finals. With a narrow 2 1/2 game lead over the Clippers, the Lakeshow must focus on ending the season on a strong note, so that they can wrap up the division title, as well as the 3rd seed in the Western Conference. The Lakers finish up the week with a home game against the Houston Rockets, and a road contest against the Phoenix Suns.
In the words of the Black Mamba, it appears that this current group of Lakers are “attacking fast and finishing strong”, and are evolving into a championship caliber “System” during the most opportune time of the season.
