Bulls Get KNICKed by New York

Derrick Rose returned to the court after a hiatus due to a groin injury and he had his struggles in the first half but up his tempo and play in the second half. However, his return was not all well because his team ended up with the loss. Carmelo Anthony hit a tying three point in the final seconds of regulation to tie the game and then hit a go ahead three pointer with 8.2 seconds left in overtime that gave the Knicks their 100-99 victory over the Chicago Bulls. The Bulls issue this game was turnovers with nineteen of them and they are usually one of the best teams at taking care of the ball but careless mistakes helped keep the Knicks in the game and helped them come back from a ten point deficit in the final three minutes of the game. The Bulls defense was there at times this game but at other points it seemed to be lax. The Bulls did hold the Knicks to 38.2% shooting from the floor but the Bulls were only able to shoot 39.3% from the floor which shows that the Bulls did force the Knicks to take contested shots but they were not able to capitalize and make the necessary buckets to put the game out of reach for the Knicks.

The Bulls were led by Derrick Rose who had 29 points in his return as well as 6 rebounds and 4 assists but the number that sticks out the most is the 8 turnovers that he had. Rose is normally a sure handed ball handler and is able to take care of the ball, the rust from his return is likely a factor for the number of turnovers but it is something that Rose will have to make sure he limits as the season winds down and the playoffs come up. Aside from Rose the Bulls had four other players in double digits including Carlos Boozer who posted a double-double with 13 points and 16 rebounds. Luol Deng also added 13 points with 9 rebounds, Taj Gibson added 11 points off of the bench, and Joakim Noah contributed 10 points for the Bulls.

After this loss the Bulls fall to 43-14 on the year but remain on first place in the Eastern Conference by two games over the Miami Heat and they have the best record in the NBA by one and a half games over both the San Antonio Spurs and Oklahoma City Thunder. The standings show the Bulls are still in prime position for the playoffs as far as top seeding but Derrick Rose looks as though he needs to shake off some rust and get up to his normal game speed. When Rose is at his speed and able to play as he normally does the Bulls are a deadly team and fun to watch.
