After being Royally beat down, the Angels got back on target in Minnesota

The Angels were picked by just about everyone to not only get to the Series, but to win it. Everyone associated in baseball is aware of that fact.

I tell you that because you should get ready for every team to be at their best when they play the Halos. On any normal day, the Angels would have raked Luke Hochevar and Jonathan Sanchez, but Kansas City guys got up for the playing the paper champions. If those 2 pitch all year like they did over the weekend, then the Central Division better watch out.

Even the Royals offense was hitting on all cylinders. Humberto Quintero, who is known more for his cannon behind the plate, than the power in his bat, chewed up Halo pitching. Pretty much everyone wearing a Royals uniform beat up the Angels.

If you don’t believe that they were up for playing the Halos, check out Monday’s KC-Oakland box score. A’s won 1-0. Not as easy to get up for a team that is predicted to finish at the bottom of the AL West.

The Angels hurt themselves. Hope they haven’t drank their own kool-aid.

Sunday they Angels went 0-13 with men in scoring position. Don’t care who they trot out there, 0-13 with RISP usually doesn’t get a team many wins.

Mike Scioscia is back to mixing the lineups every day. He’s the best manager the Halos have ever employed, but how can some players get any consistency? Mark Trumbo and Peter Bourjos shouldn’t be on the bench in the 2nd game of the season. If he is gonna switch out players, switch out Vernon Wells and Bobby Abreu.

Mark Trumbo, I can understand, because he doesn’t have a full grasp of the 3rd base position. He’s on pace to commit over 240 errors, which would set a major league record-haha. He’ll make about 30 errors this year, 18 next year, and 9, 2 years from now. That is, if they let him work out his problems at 3rd. Alberto Callaspo is not the long-term answer at that position.

It’s only been 4 games, so nothing to get worried about. Albert Pujols will get his, and if he keeps making plays at 3rd like he did on Sunday, the Halos pitchers will be thanking him twice as much.

Nice to see the Halos ruin the Twins home opener. I was even happier to see them score a few more runs late in the game. This offense will hopefully get on track soon because the Rangers look downright scary.

CJ Wilson looked like he did in Texas, throwing mostly zeros at the Twins.

The Angels get Tuesday off before jumping back into the fray on Wednesday.
