No Laughing Matter…Magic fall to the Wizards 93-85

The Orlando Magic were unable to claim their 3rd straight win as they fell to the no name Washington Wizards 93-85.
No disrespect intended for the Wizards as they notched just their 13th win of the season but the cast of characters that did the Magic in wouldn’t win any NBA popularity contests.
The great Kevin Seraphin had a career best 24 points, 13 rebounds and 4 blocks leading the Wizards in victory.
Dwight Howard missed the game as he recovers from back spasms. There is little doubt Seraphin would have fared as well had Howard been in the game according to Magic coach, Stan van Gundy.
”So you’ve got a night where you don’t have to play against the best center in the league, I would think it helped him (Seraphin) a lot.” said Van Gundy.
Seraphin was not affected by the defensive effort of Glen Davis in the slightest on his way to 11-16 from the floor.
Both Martin and Singleton are on 10 day contracts but the Magic were defenseless in their efforts to stop the unfamiliar duo.
”We might have to go to all 10-day contracts next year,” Washington coach Randy Wittman said.
Jameer Nelson led the Magic with 19 points and 7 assists followed by another solid performance from Davis who had 12 points and 10 rebounds in the absence of Howard. While Davis continues to fill in for Howard offensively he simply isn’t big enough (vertically) to affect shots in the paint against the opposition.
The Magic allowed the Wizards to shoot 50% from the floor but managed to shoot just 37% themselves. Ryan Anderson continues to shake off the ill effects of an ankle injury but was ineffective in 39 minutes with 7 points on just 2-10 from the floor.
Van Gundy defended his team in the post game presser:
”I don’t think it was anybody out there with a lack of effort, we just looked slow tonight. We looked very, very slow, I thought. To me, it didn’t look like we weren’t trying. I thought guys wanted to do it. They just looked quicker than we were…We simply cannot play well at a low-energy level. We cannot. We don’t have a way to do that. And our players understand, and I think they believe that, and I think they know how they have to play, and I think they want to do it. It’s just, tonight we couldn’t do it.”
Tired legs and no Dwight Howard is never a good recipe.
Orlando seems to be running out of gas to finish the season as the off the court drama regains momentum. Another terrible recipe.
