Charles Barkley seems to think that the NBA Draft Lottery is rigged & I personally agree with his assessment. I’ve been telling anyone who will listen that this event is clearly “staged” to help the WORST team get a boost from the league. Still, the most interesting thing Chuck said was that he believes the Nets will benefit from the “rigging” this June.
Now, that in mind. I came up with THREE teams that I think could“win” the lottery this year.
1. Brooklyn Nets – Brooklyn is desperate to add a “young star” to attract fans to the Barclays Center. Earning the 1st pick would be a major step in that direction. It would make perfect sense to have Anthony Davis playing in the Big City. Davis could quickly form a lethal inside/outside tandem with Marshon Brooks. The success of the Nets in Brooklyn is very important to the league, so why not think it’s possible for the ping-pong balls to bounce the right way for us.
2. Charlotte Bobcats – Despite having MJ at the helm. Charlotte is clearly the WORST team in the league this season. This franchise would easily benefit from “winning” the lottery. Davis would come in & anchor a struggling defense by giving them a true center that can blend with guards Kemba Walker & D.J. Augustin. We all know how close Jordan & Stern are, so it wouldn’t surprise me, if Charlotte earned the 1st pick. Besides, with the WORST record this season, that’ll have the best chance to get the top spot.
3. New Orleans Hornets – This franchise has struggled since they traded Chris Paul to L.A. The NBA owned the Hornets until this past week. So, with the league’s daily involvement in this team. It’s very possible to believe that New Orleans would be in line to receive the 1st pick this year. The help will be greatly improve the Hornets as Davis will become the centerpiece of their next era. The NBA would love to see this team improve it’s standing within the league. So, giving New Orleans the 1st pick will instantly create a buzz in the Crescent City.
Each of these teams obviously needs the 1st pick in this Draft Lottery, but I am anxious to see if Charles Barkley’s suspicion comes true.
As Chuck has said before “I maybe WRONG, but I DOUBT it!”
