With Kobe’s injury the Lakers offense is not exactly flowing the way Laker fans are used to. The Spurs game the other night looked to me like we took a page out of the Orlando Magic book. The ball would enter to Bynum in the low post and then once the double team was drawn the ball was dished out for a three. The Lakers really got away from the classing triangle offense which brings them success against well rounded teams like the Spurs. On the positive end of things Gasol was getting more touches and because of that expanding his range. It appeared that MWP was playing with a lot more confidence and Bynum was being his stellar under rated self.
Now for the real question do the Lakers bring back Kobe before the playoffs? My answer is NO for a couple of reasons! The first being is that it doesn’t make sense to bring him back to hold onto the 3rd seed. Slipping to 4th or 5th believe it or not might be beneficial and result in better match ups for the Lakers. Ideally the Lakers avoid the Mavericks in the first round at all costs! The Lakers match up a lot better to the Grizzlies or Clippers. Second reason for not bringing back Kobe at all is that the negative consequences far outweigh the positive ones. I understand that Kobe is not being rushed back but the Lakers don’t need him back yet what if he gets hurt worse! Kobe for sure wants to come back ASAP but I believe that the rest for Kobe will be a lot better in the long run. And the losses that can come with out Bryant in the lineup may help the Lakers on the road to the finals!
