Tigers Re-Acquire Zach Miner From Royals For Cash
Posted By Jeremy Klumpp On Apr 20 2012 @ 1:05 pm In Detroit Tigers | No Comments
The Tigers will be welcoming back an old friend this weekend. In exchange for cash considerations the Kansas City Royals have traded pitcher Zach Miner to the Tigers.
The move on the surface appears to have more to do with pitching issues in the farm system, and less to do with the Tigers relief pitching woes. Miner will report to Double-A Erie this weekend. The Sea Wolves have used 15 pitchers already this season, and have a team ERA of 5.05.
Miner had Tommy John surgery in 2010, and has not pitched in the majors since 2009 with the Tigers. Last season he split time with the Royals Double-A Northwest Arkansas team, and their Triple-A Omaha club, he was 3-7 with a 5.26 ERA. He has not pitched in this season at any level.
During his previous stint with the Tigers from 2006-09, Miner was 25-20 with a 4.24 ERA, and 1.45 WHIP. He started 35 games, but was used primarily has a long relief pitcher. It is currently unclear what plans Tigers management have for Miner, but with good outings in Erie, and continued relief problems in Detroit he could be heading to the big leagues soon.
