The Texas Rangers continued their hot start to the season by scoring eight runs in the first inning on their way to a 10-4 victory against the Tigers.

Tigers starter Rick Porcello (1-1) allowed eight earned runs, and 10 hits before being pulled after facing three batters in the second inning. Before Saturday’s game Porcello had two quality starts, and his ERA was 1.84. After this afternoon’s outing his ERA rose to 6.32.

The Rangers have outscored the Tigers 20-7 in two games this season, and 47-22 in their last five meetings stretching back to last season’s ALCS. Tigers pitchers have surrendered 74 hits over that span.

Rangers starter Matt Harrison (3-0) pitched 7 2/3 innings allowing three earned runs, and six hits. The only Rangers starter not to record a hit was shortstop Elvis Andrus.

Lefty Duane Below relieved Porcello in the second inning, and pitched a sensational six innings. Below allowed no runs, and only four hits. He has not allowed an earned run this season after four appearances, and continues to build a case for starting him at some point this season.

The Tigers offense was ineffective again, but Miguel Cabrera did go 3-4 with a home run and two RBIs. He raised his average above .300, and may be back on track after a week of poor hitting.

After the game the Tigers optioned reliever Daniel Schlereth to Toledo, and recalled right-handed pitcher Thad Weber. Schlereth pitched Saturday afternoon giving up a solo home run to Mike Napoli. Weber was 2-0 with a 0.75 ERA, and 0.58 WHIP in Toledo.

Weber will be in uniform tonight as Justin Verlander (1-1, 2.13 ERA, 0.71 WHIP) faces off against Neftali Feliz (1-0, 2.25 ERA, 1.08 WHIP) in the second game of the day-night double header.
