Searching for answers, Angels shake up roster (They still lost to Cleveland)

The Angels finally solved one of their outfield problems when they released Bobby Abreu today. It’s an inglorious ending for a guy who gave the Angels fans many a rush with his clutch hitting, and stolen bases. He’s not retiring, so he’ll be picked up quickly.

I was told the Halos recalled Mike Trout, who his hitting better than .400 in SLC.

[2]

If that is true about Trout, I do have some questions.

Will he gonna be splitting time with Bourjos and Wells?

Or, are the Angels thinking of dealing Bourjos for pitching help? That would be assinine, especially with the Wells playing up to his usual standards, .230, 4 hr and 8 RBI. Bourjos is just hitting .178, but he should be part of the Halos future outfield. Trading him now would be shortsighted. It’s a bit tough to get things going when he gets just 8 at bats a week.

I still haven’t read that the Halos have recalled Trout. Seems to me they need help in the pen, not in the outfield. Maybe with Abreu gone it’ll give the others a little more playing time. Doubt it, not with Mark Trumbo struggling at third base.

In other Angels news. Jordan Walden is out as Halos closer, and Scott Downs is in. I’ll take that. Walden needs to be in less pressure filled situation right now.

Now lets see how creative Angels General Manager Jerry DiPoto really is. It’s one thing to spend money to sign a guy, it’s another to have to finagle other teams into helping yours, without gutting your team in the process. If I was a rival GM, and DiPoto called, I’d start at Trout, move to Trumbo, and finish with Bourjos. Nothing like trying to rob a desperate first time GM.

I am tired of people saying it’s early. It’s one thing to start the season off 9-11 or 10-10, but 6-14 is unacceptable. The Angels need to go win 8 straight just to get to the .500 mark. I am not saying they can’t do it, but you don’t want to have to reel off huge winning streaks just to get back to the break even point.

Once again on Friday the Halos bullpen blew it. Please explain to me why the Angels bullpen guys like throwing the ball right down the middle.

Takahashi throws one right down the pipe to Michael Brantley to cut the Angels lead to one in the 7th.

You all know how I feel about the guy who relieved him, Kevin Jepsen. 1st batter after relieving Takahashi, Jepsen throws a meatball up to Jason Kipnis, who lined that ball into center for a game tying single

And the ultimate in what not to do, David Carpenter gives Asdrubal Cabrera a fat pitch to hit, right down the middle, in the bottom of the 9th with runners at the corners–game over.

Seconds before Mark Gubicza said, “With a base open, you don’t have to give him anything to hit.” Obviously, Carpenter didn’t agree with that logic.

Never got a chance to see the new Angels closer.

I know I am in the minority, but it’s time to rest Albert Pujols for a day. His swing is way out of whack. Opening up his front shoulder, and swinging with just his hands. The man needs a mental break. Here’s saying that he’ll get one in the next 2 days.

Torii Hunter had a great game. Man that guy has a cannon in right. Great throw in gunning down Cabrera. Career high 15 assists last year for Hunter. Got his 1st of 2012 on Friday.

Coming back to hit a home run in his next at bat was clutch, as well.

Another great start by an Angels starting pitcher goes by the boards. Hopefully soon, the luck will change for the Angels.

I wonder if they believed all the great things being said about them the past 6 months. Sure looks like a team that expects other teams to mail it in.

Angels only 9.5 out after 20 games. Good times.
