The NBA season has been whittled down to 16 teams out of the original 30 that started with hopes of making the playoffs this season.
Yes even the Charlotte Bobcats had hopes of sneaking into the playoffs when the season started, as comical as that sounds in hindsight.
The 66 game shortened season has left the playoff field as wide open as it has ever been especially in the Western Conference.
We are here to try to make sense of it all in our own unique ways.
Five writers, each representing a playoff team, weigh in with their predictions on how the 2012 NBA Playoffs will unfold.

One thing that stands out in these picks is the lack of confidence 4 of our writers seem to have for the Chicago Bulls. I suspect health plays a role in their decisions.
The writers will defend their picks below in the comments section feel free to jump in the conversation. Be sure to also check out our NBA Awards article as well.

I’ll defend my least popular picks. 1) I support Denver’s chances against the Lakers because they have the right personnel to at least battle LA to a standstill inside – not saying they will, but they can. They also have enough scoring weapons to keep it interesting. 2) What if the Grizzlies aren’t as good as we keep saying? Isn’t there a little concern over their lack of shooting? 3) Will a single Celtics starter be healthy enough to play 5-6 quality playoff games? Jones out.

I like the bold predictions regarding the Nuggets and Hawks by may dude Steven. I don’t think Denver has a chance though as I think Kobe is on suicide mission for redemption.
Memphis is tinkering with their lineup apparently now wanting to start Randolph again. I think they can get past the Clippers and if they do they are not a good match-up for the Spurs.

Boston does come in limping as always and I feel they are a little overconfident coming into their series against the Hawks. They might trail in the series 2-0 before they get their acts together to comeback and win.
I am really curious to understand just exactly how healthy the Bulls are. Luckily they have drawn the 76ers which should mean limited action for Rose and the banged up Bulls. I really think the Bulls bench can handle Philly. But in round 2 things will be vastly different.

The West is really wide-open, but that three teams that really could advance are the Lakers, Spurs, and of course the Thunder (most likely the favorite). In the East (unfortunately) it looks it’s going to be the Heat after their dismantling of the Knicks today with a 100-67 Win. News just came across that Rose has torn his ACL, out for the playoffs, so I don’t see the Bulls contending for the Eastern Conference Championship, but they do have the ability to advance into the Conference Finals.
Boston does really have a chance, but they’re gonna have to shoot lights out, and Ray Allen’s availability will obviously control their destiny.
The playoffs have begun.

Unexpected first day of action. So much to be decided

Now with the injury to Rose, the Celtics road to the Conference Finals looks a little easier.
Warren Shaw Apr 29 201212:37 pm
Yes that worries me for the Celtics. They can’t start looking ahead as ATL is very dangerous

Derrick Rose, I’m still in awe with Thibodeau with how he left him out there when the Bulls were up double digits and under one and a half minutes to go. The Bulls still do have a shot because of their defense and their relentlessness to get to the 50-50 balls. The Bulls can also outrebound any team by big margins at times and that is to their advantage because the other Eastern Conference teams are not the greatest rebounding teams and if the Bulls can force tough shots they will limit second chance opportunities and it could give them the edge they need to win. Also, Boozer needs to live up to some of his contract and have solid double-double games throughout the playoffs because he is an important piece for a Title run now.

As far as the Knicks-Heat series I hope Amare misses the rest of it because the Knicks had better team chemistry without him and they just played a lot better. When Melo was at the four it made them so athletic and able to just look like a contender because they had a very solid inside-outside game during Stoudemire’s absence.
Warren Shaw May 2 201212:36 am
I was in favor of bringing Amar’e off the bench but Woodson said he couldn’t have a guy making that much money as a reserve. Melo is match up nightmare at the 4 maybe the Knicks can win their first playoff game with Amare out
