EMU Gets Even With NIU

YPSILANTI —- Under the rain drop at Oestrike Stadium, Eastern Michigan University even up the weekend series against Northern Illinois University with a 7-5 victory Saturday afternoon.
Eastern Michigan University offense need some extra help and Eagle baseball coach Jay Alexander said after Friday night’s game he was looking for chicken and some Buddha Dolls to help the Eagle bats.
The Eagles shook off the hitting slump and 15 scoreless innings by getting five runs in the sixth inning, led by catcher Adam Dennison and left fielder Daniel Russell.
“Yeah we did good that inning,” Alexander said about the sixth inning. “We had a little help here and there and we stayed the course and they finally woke up.”
Dennison finished the game with three hits and Russell had one hit that produced three runs for the Eagles.
“”He has been doing a god job for us getting on base and getting clutch hits,” Alexander said about Russell. “Yeah but I am ready to kill him. He made the first out at third when we did need to we had guys coming up but that is me just being a coach.”
“He is our guy for the future you need to clean some things from being a freshman you know how that goes he is ready to rock and he is going to be a good one,” Alexander said about Dennison after the game.
Alexander called upon Steve Webber to start for the Eagles.
“All in all he pitched well,” Alexander said about his starting pitchers performance. “We had a good result and he kept us in the game and he gave us a chance.”
Webber gave up one run in the first inning and another run in the third inning to the Huskies but he worked 7.1 of an inning striking out five and walked one but gave up three earn runs before giving way to the Eagle bullpen.
Alexander called out Collin Taylor from the pen and he faced two batters, he gave up a fly ball out and one strike out before the Eagle’s closer Joe Battistelli made his appearance to close the door on anymore Northern Illinois University hitters that can make any more trouble for the Eagles.
“Joe is a jack-of-all trades if we need him to go three or four innings he will do that,” Alexander said about his closer. “Right now I would have to say he is our closer.”
Eastern Michigan University and Northern Illinois University will finish the series with a say game Sunday afternoon April 29, 2012 at Oestrike Stadium starting at Noon.
