Chiefs Fill Needs On Both Sides Of The Ball

The Chiefs addressed one of their biggest needs with their first round pick. Dontari Poe is a big guy, listed at 6’5″ and 350 pounds, and will jump right into the nose tackle position. They then went with an offensive lineman by selecting Jeff Allen out of the University of Illinois. The line was another position that Kansas City knew it needed help at. Allen can play either tackle or guard, so this was another solid pick.
They continued to help the offense by drafting the speedy wide-receiver Devon Wylie. The plus side of Wylie is that he can also return kicks and will immediately improve their special teams. The selection of Cyrus Gray was a little questionable. He definitely adds depth to their offensive backfield and the speed is there, but the guy has trouble staying healthy.
The Chiefs did a good job of filling most of their needs, although they could have used an inside linebacker to help out Derrick Johnson or a safety as insurance behind Eric Berry. Of course it’s impossible to fix every problem through the draft, but the organization definitely added some guys that will come in and make a positive impact.
