After playing pretty well in the first game of the series, Atlanta has dropped the last two. Game 3 had to go to overtime, but the Celtics prevailed by a 90-84 score. Joe Johnson and Jeff Teague had big games. Joe scored 29, and Jeff added 23. As an aside, give Jeff a lot of credit. The Hawks were without Josh Smith due to a knee injury, so he came big and tried to supplement the lost offense. Tracy McGrady also came off the bench to add in 12, but those were the only players to score in double figures. After that, Erick Dampier had 6. Joe was his amazing self, but only two players picked up Josh’s slack, and it wasn’t enough to surmount Boston. Speaking of, their numbers prove it’s a team game. The usual suspects came up big. Paul Pierce had 21, Kevin Garnett 20, Rajon Rondo 17, and Ray Allen 13. Ray came off the bench and Rajon played after being suspended for game 2. You could argue that this series turned in that game. Boston was without its’ floor leader, but the Hawks couldn’t put them away. As for this one, the key was foul shooting. Boston made 10 more from the charity stripe. Josh hopes to be back for game four, and Atlanta definitely needs him for a must win, or else Atlanta has no hope of surviving to the second round.
