Atlanta has their back to the wall

We thought the return of Josh Smith might be enough to turn the tide in this series. It wasn’t. Boston drop kicked the Hawks straight into the Charles River by a score of 101-79. After losing their last three, Atlanta now finds itself in desperate straits. The next three contest will be elimination matchups, starting with Tuesday’s tilt at Philips Arena. Boston blitzed out to a 64-41 halftime score and then coasted. Paul Pierce had 24, and Rajon Rondo chipped in 20. For the losers, Josh led with 15, but Joe Johnson could only muster 9. And, your eyes are not deceiving you. Al Horford did make an appearance. All indications was that his rehab from his torn pectoral would keep him out of this series, but he played 20 minutes off the bench and scored 12 points on 6-10 shooting. However, he only mustered 5 rebounds. Jannero Pargo had 11, but what really hurt was the muzzle the Celtics placed on Joe Johnson, who only had 9. The big thing to take out from this, besides the possible starting of summer vacation, is that Larry Drew has no choice but to throw his players in regardless of their injury situation. Drew said before the game he’d watch Josh’s minutes, but when it became clear the Hawks needed a boost, he had to let him play. Now he has to see how he and Al fare with possible soreness tomorrow, and then make a decision about playing time Tuesday. But, in a do or die situation like this is, you have to ride your best players and let the chips fall where they may.
