Hawks got bounced by Celts

After the rout that Boston inflicted on Atlanta in Game 4, nobody would have blamed the Hawks for playing dead in Game 5 and starting summer early. Give the Hawks credit for gutting out a victory. But they couldn’t gut out a similar victory in Game 6. The result is summer vacation in the form of an 83-80 loss. Boston now advances and will play Philly in the semis. For Atlanta, Larry Drew rode his starters hard. All five (Joe, Josh, Al, Marvin, and Jeff) logged more than 30 minutes. (Also, in a weird development, each of those first four players had between 18 and 15 points) The Celts did something similar with their minutes. Paul Pierce played just over 40 minutes, and Kevin Garnett (who led in scoring with 28) and Rajon Rondo played over thirty. The game went down to the very end. Al had a chance to tie it with just over a second left, but he couldn’t make the needed foul shot. A quick foul on the other end, and Pierce made both attempts to ice it. Going into the offseason, the big debate is what to do with Josh Smith. He wants out. The only question is whether the divorce will be amicable or messy. Al can now go into rehab and make sure he is 100% next season. Atlanta will have a draft pick around 17-20. I wonder if any member of Kentucky’s championship squad will be around by then. Those are all good questions, and I’ll be sure to bring them to you, but now I’ll be turning my focus to the Atlanta Braves.
