A Nice Win

The Minnesota Twins used a committee of pitchers and scored the most runs they have all season to pick up an 11-7 victory over the Tigers tonight. Nick Blackburn lasted only 2 innings after being shelled for 6 runs on 6 hits while walking 2 and striking out 2 and Rick Porcello didn’t fare much better, giving up 6 runs (2 earned) in 4 innings. But, for once, the Twins used their sticks to make up for the rough start by Blackburn and managed to get a win.
The biggest hit for the Twins came in the top of the second, with Jamey Carroll on and Erik Komatsu reaching on an error, Brian Dozier smacked a 1-1 pitch over the fence in left for a 3 run jack which cut the Tigers’ early lead to one.
The next inning, Doumit tied the game with a single to center, scoring Willingham. They added 2 more in the 6th, 1 in the 7th and 2 in the 9th off a Trevor Plouffe 2 run homer to left to claim the 11-7 victory.
Up until tonight, the most runs the Twins managed to score was 10 back on April 12th against the Angels. It was the much needed shot in the arm the Twins needed and the best part is that it was provided by the offense. For once they were able to cover a bad outing from their starter. By the way, the Twins bullpen did their jobs and kept the team in the game for 7 innings.
Overall, it was a nice win for the Twins.
