Extra, extra….Angels drop a pair in San Diego

What a break for the Angels. They started interleague play with 3 games against the worst team, record wise at least, in the National League in the San Diego Padres.
The Padres left the 3 games with the 2nd worst record in the NL. What helps is taking 2 of 3 from the awful Angels.
I know, this Halo team, full of veterans, will get their act together. Unfortunately, it wasn’t this weekend. When will it be?
I was told that the reason for Albert Pujols struggles was American League pitching. As in, he hadn’t seen most of these guys before. So what’s the problem now? In the 3 games, the big money man went 2-12, with no home runs or RBI’s.
I am not saying that Pujols is the only reason why the Angels are one of the lowest scoring teams in baseball, but I doubt if the Halos are relying on Erick Aybar to be their main source of power.
I will give Pujols kudos for playing 3rd in a pinch Sunday. I’ve never criticized him as a teammate.
The one guy doing some damage with the bat is Mike Trout. The 20 year old went 7-12, with a home run, 3 RBI and 3 stolen bases.
On the flip side is Maicer Izturis, who went 0-10 in the three games.
Erick Aybar finally found his swing, going 8-15 in the three games.
I wonder how much credit Jim Eppard takes for guys hitting or not hitting? Or does he now understand the frustration that Mickey Hatcher dealt with all season.
When the bullpen was struggling, it gave the offense a pass. With all the pitchers throwing fairly well, it just makes the lack off offense that much more obvious.
The Halo starters had a 3.28 ERA in the 3 games. The Bullpen had a zero ERA through 10 innings.
For those of you thinking I am dogging the Halos, name me 5 players on the Padres. Nope, Orlando Hudson isn’t on the team anymore. Yeah, that’s what I thought.
Here’s how smart I am. I wrote this as the Angels and Padres were playing 13 innings. This team doesn’t hit, anywhere or anyone.
Feel bad for Howard Kendrick, whose error allowed the winning run to score. However, Clayton Richards single with 2-out in the 13th was embarrassing to David Pauley. I don’t care if the Padres pitchers are hitting better than .300, Richard is still a pitcher, and a fine former Michigan quarterback.
Tough day for the Halos in a couple ways. They lost, but that was expected. However, they didn’t expect to lose Vernon Wells and Ryan Langerhans to injuries.
Angels lost a interleague series for the first time in their last 9 tries.
Why did the Angels lose 2 of 3 to middling Padres team? Try 4-36 with runners in scoring position. Sorry, the Angels are middling too.
If I went over all the Angels blown chances this weekend, this would be about 10,000 words.
Hey, nothing to worry about, right? It’s only May. This team is horrible right now and they trail the Rangers by 8 games.
Something has to be done, and Jerry DiPoto has proven to be unafraid to pull the trigger on anything.
I know this is gonna be sac-religious, but I think Scioscia is on the clock. He has no ties to DiPoto, who has no ties to him.
Angels now get to lose 3 of 4 in Oakland.
