Additionally, Pete Carroll wouldn't flinch if he needed to cut Winslow. That's just the way Carroll operates. If Winslow is a major bust (which I don't think he will be), we only gave up what would amount to a 7th rounder for him.

Thanks for your comment Scott. I have read many similar disgruntled Tampa fans' responses to the Winslow trade.

I have several comments to make in response:

Sure, many of Winslow's catches came against big leads, but perhaps that's because he was on a bad team? The Seahawks do not need him to practice, they need him to play, and he did not miss a game the last three years in Tampa. Pete Carroll LOVES project players like Winslow (look at Mike Williams), and is the type of coach who can get the most from players like Winslow.

As far as old and slow - he's still plenty fast to get open against linebackers. Compared to what we've had in Seattle, he still looks like Usain Bolt. Remember this: sure he has had attitude problems and bad knees, but his numbers from last year would have been the BEST EVER for a Seahawk tight end. The Seahawks won't use him or need him as much as the Bucs, but they have the locker room to make him realize his value to the team: he's a viable threat on play-action passes and reliable over the middle threat for a primarily run-oriented team. Clearly we needed help, because our leading receiver last year was an undrafted rookie. What he can add to the team might result in two or three extra first downs a game for a team that believes it is on the verge of being a playoff team. That is plenty for me to be excited about.

We had seen enough of Winslow in Tampa Bay. His numbers are very decieving and much of them came during mop up time when he would catch a few 10 and 20 yard passes against prevent defenses with big leads. He has two bad knees that are always swollen and he rarely practices and gets into a rythym with the team. When he catches the ball- he plods around and looks very slow due to his knees. And then there is the "me" attitude and sense of priviledge. He is simply not good enough to be a prima donna on a team like the Bucs who are trying to change the entitlement attitude on the team. But, maybe he will be a good fit with Seattle? We will see. Don't think that you are getting a fast and athletic Winslow though- he looks old and slow when he plays these days.
