DWYANE WADE – BEST IN THE WORLD

BTW.  A simple three letter text that Pat Riley used to send to Dwyane Wade.  It stood for “best in the world”.  This was Riley motivating Wade in the pre-LeBron Heat era.  The Heat President thought that when Dwyane was focused he should aim high, and Wade has shown at times that he can be the best basketball player in the world.  The 2006 NBA Finals are an excellent example of this, and tonight in Indiana was another.  Wade went for 41 points, while the Heat closed out the Pacers 105-93.

Wade wasn’t the only player who played well for Miami.  Both Mario Chalmers and Mike Miller chipped in with 15 and 12 points respectively.  LeBron was his usual excellent self with 28 points in this close-out game.  However, this night belonged to DWade.  A postseason series-clinching win and Wade dominates.  This is something that everyone has expected of LeBron James since his arrival in 2003, so Dwyane’s performance is almost viewed as a pleasant surprise.  James is a marvelous player and a stat hound, but think about this number; the Miami Heat are 7-0 when Wade scores 40+ points in the playoffs.  Flash is the man for Miami in the NBA postseason.

Against the Pacers, Miami looked like they might be in trouble early.  Indiana shot 59% from the field in the first half, but the Heat were able to offset that with Wade scoring 20 points in the 2nd quarter.  That’s right, the 2nd quarter.  In fact Wade and James outscored the entire Pacer’s starting lineup over the last three games.

The Miami Heat are good enough right now to beat anyone, with the possible exception of the Spurs or Thunder.  The bad news is that they have to play one of those teams to win the NBA Title.  Everybody in South Florida better hope that Chris Bosh can play again this season, because against either one of those teams in the West, I don’t know that the Wade/James 1-2 punch will be enough.
