Pujols is a 2-game hero, while Figgins is the game-2 goat

The Angels wrote the perfect script in game 1 against the Mariners. Albert Puljols supplies the offense, and the starting pitching shuts down the opposition.

Pujols had one of his most productive games since joining the team by getting 3 hits, including the 450th home run of his career, and a stolen base.

Dan Haren did the rest. Haren struck out a career high 14 batters in pitching a complete shutout. Angels won game won 3-0.

I think Haren caught a break, as many of pitches didn’t look like strikes. However, Vic Carapazza did his best Leslie Nielson impression from “Naked Gun”, calling a few strikes even before the ball made it to the plate. Ok he didn’t do that, but some of the strikes were iffy, at best.

Thankfully the Angels had Pujols in the lineup, as the rest of the team pounded out 4 hits. Mark Trumbo and Peter Bourjos did have 3 strike outs each.

I wish I understood. How can guys be pounding the ball one week, then the next look completely overmatched? I am not saying guys are gonna hit the ball hard, or reach base every time, but Trumbo looks awful right now.

Case in point. From May 15-18, Trumbo went 9-16. From the 19-25th, he has gone 4-30. I blame everything on Jim Eppard now–haha

Talking about Eppard. The last time I saw the guy he had wavy brown hair, looked like a ballplayer. Now he is completely gray, and looks like a school teacher.

I fully expected the Angels offense to lay down once they got down by 4 runs in game 2. Thankfully, Pujols was in the lineup again. Pujols 3-run opposite field shot pulled the Angels to with in a run, but they still trailed 4-3.

It could have been uglier than that. Ervin Santana walked 7 batters in 5 innings, including 3 in the 1st inning, but almost got the win.

Can Chone Figgins career in Seattle get any worse? He may be the most disliked guy in Emerald City. After Friday night, he might have dropped even lower than that.

Let me explain.

Angels have Alberto Callaspo on 1st and Peter Bourjos on 2nd in the 9th when Erick Aybar bunts.

Brandon League throws the ball wildly past 3rd baseman Alex Liddi.

[7]

Figgins, playing left, lets the ball roll through his legs after it caromed off the wall. Bourjos got up and scored, which he might have anyhow, but Figgins error allowed Callaspo to take 3rd. After an intentional walk, Howard Kendrick singled home the go ahead runs.

League’s error will be based on Bourjos speed, but Figgins it’ll be…lack of concentration. At least he got his $$$

What a grab by Kole Calhoun in the bottom of the 9th. The kid has some skills.

Angels steal one in Seattle by winning game 2, 6-4.

It is the Angels first 4-game winning streak this season.
