Jordan Lyles, starting pitcher for Houston tonight picked up a W after a strong outing. Lyles went seven innings while allowing: five hits, two runs, both of them being earned, two walks, and fanning three. Final score today was 5-3 Astros over the Reds in Houston, Texas in front of 19,914 fans. Lyles had a good tempo going all day and had good command of his breaking pitches. He did a great job attacking the strike zone today as he started 19-26 hitters today with first pitch strikes. Key moment in the game was Justin Maxwell’s pinch hit three run homer late in the game. It was a timely hit that gave the Astros the lead and helped solidfy a win. The “regulators” did a fine job as well closing the game out. Under named player of the game had to be first baseman Brett Wallace (HOU). He was just called up to replace the injured Carlos Lee. He went 2-3 today and scored once.
Some postgame quotes: “It’s not easy (when you) give another major league team a three or four spot in the first inning,” Lyles said. “I had to really bear down from the get-go and not try to hold anything back or save anything. My main focus was to get through that first inning.”
“What an effort from Jordan Lyles. That was absolutely outstanding,” Houston manager Brad Mills said. “He came right out and shut that down and started making pitches right away.”
The Astros record is now 23-31 this season. Here in the next few hours is the 2012 MLB Draft. It is an off day for the team and Astros have the first pick of the draft this year. It’ll be interesting to see who they select first. More details/a new article will follow soon when Houston does make the selection. Stay posted
