Who is Michael Rosario?

I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know Michael Rosario for a couple of years now. Michael is a college baseball player who is an under the radar guy for this year’s MLB Draft. He lived most of his life in the Dominican Republic, but resides in Miami, Florida. He is a 6’1, 210 pound third baseman. He just got done playing junior college ball (in a wood bat conference) where he had much success. The 20 year old stud hit seven homeruns this past season in only 167 plate appearances. Might not seem like much but predict this stat at a professional level where he could see around 450-500 AB’s. He’s a guy that might hit 25 HR’s for a club! The kid handles the stick well and has great bat speed with balls coming off his bat differently than others. Not to mention he runs well and has a plus everything when speaking of the “tools”. Michael having filled out MLB questionaire’s and interest from different scouts from organizations, he isn’t the first in his family to be a standout baseball player. His brother played professionally for the Arizona D-Backs in the Dominican Republic Summer League some years back.
Why should MLB teams take a shot in the draft for Michael Rosario? This sentence says it all: he WILL sign your contract. Many problems come up with players signing if they are drafted late in the draft. This kid is unselfish and is ready for the next level. When it comes down to it more reasons to take him is: no criminal background, young with tons of upside, never had any serious injuries, has had success in college swinging wood, and he’ll sign your contract.
Where is he now? Michael is playing in one of the premier collegiate summer leagues in the country: The Texas Collegiate League. He currently plays for The Woodlands Strykers, where he hits cleanup and starts at third. He was invited to the league and he told me he is hoping on getting more exposed. I believe he came to the right place!
Kevin Castleberry, longtime minor leaguer is probably his best reference to this point. Castleberry comes from Conroe, Texas and has a terrific professional background. Castleberry is a former Conroe High School and Oklahoma Sooner standout. He spent 10 years playing professional ball and made it up to AAA. Guess we will see what happens now. The 2012 MLB Draft continues Tuesday and Wednesday of this week.

This concludes my dark horse player/potential steal of the 2012 MLB Draft.
