The Tampa Bay Rays rebounded nicely after getting swept by the New York Mets by beating the Miami Marlins 11-0 at Tropicana Field. After sweeping the Marlins in Miami last weekend, young starting pitcher Matt Moore led the way to the Rays 4th-straight victory over their cross-state rivals.

Things started out a little bit shaky for Moore. After striking out Jose Reyes to start the ballgame, Donovan Solano singled and stole second. Moore then walked Giancarlo Stanton, but then he got Logan Morrison to ground into a 1-6-4 fielder’s choice and struck out Omar Infante to escape the jam. After the Rays failed to score off of Carlos Zambrano in their half of the 1st inning, Moore got back in the stretch after walking Justin Ruggiano to start the 2nd inning. Moore then struck out Austin Kearns, Gaby Sanchez, and John Buck, and from this point on the Rays took full control.

Zambrano got himself into trouble in the 2nd inning by walking Ben Zobrist and Carlos Pena. Jose Lobaton then doubled home Zobrist. After Will Rhymes struck out and Elliot Johnson walked, Desmond Jennings singled home Pena and then B.J. Upton drew a bases-loaded walk to bring home Lobaton. The Rays sent nine men to the plate that inning while scoring 3 runs and making Zambrano throw 46 pitches.

Zambrano was sent to the showers early, as Ozzie Guillen took him out after Zobrist singled and Pena walked to start off the bottom of the third. Rhymes later picked up an RBI single that inning, giving the Rays a 4-0 lead.

The Rays added 2 more runs in the 5th inning, on a Zobrist homer and then Rhymes drove in Pena for the second time with an RBI single. The Rays way ahead in the 7th, with a 5-run 2-out rally, with the big hit being a bases-clearing double by Jennings.

After the walk to Ruggiano in the second inning, Moore was lights out. He retired 18 of the next 19 batters he faced, before getting taken out after 7 innings because of a high pitch count. Burke Badenhop and Brandon Gomes pitched each pitched scoreless innings to complete the 1-hit shutout.

The Marlins and Rays will meet again tomorrow at 7:15 ET, with Anibal Sanchez (3-5, 3.40 ERA) set to face off against James Shields (7-4, 4.06) ERA. The series finale is on Sunday at 1:40 ET, with Josh Johnson (4-4, 4.27 ERA) facing Alex Cobb (2-3, 4.70 ERA).
