On Monday night the Baltimore Orioles lost to the New York Mets 5-0 and Mets pitcher R.A. Dickey completes his second complete, one hit game in a row. Dickey also recorded a new record thirteen strikeouts against the O’s.
Twenty-four of the twenty-seven outs for the Orioles came were either caused by a strikeout or a groundout. The O’s only managed to hit the ball out of the infield three times tonight.
Orioles pitcher Jake Arrieta, who has been struggling this season despite his latest win on June, 13th vs. Pittsburgh, actually held the Mets scoreless tonight up until the sixth inning giving up a two out grand slam to the Mets Ike Davis. The Orioles came into this game with a streak of twenty consecutive innings without a run given up and now it is broken. Even after giving up the grand slam in the sixth and getting the streak snapped Orioles manager Buck Showalter decided to bring Arrieta back into the seventh inning, which he was able to close out. Arrieta now goes to 3-9 on the season and has lost seven of his last nine starts. What are the Orioles going to do with Jake Arrieta? Move him to the Bullpen? Send him down to the Minors? Or just get rid of him completely?
R.A Dickey now improves to 11-1 keeping his win streak alive at six straight. His last and only loss was back on April, 18th of this season. Mets third baseman David Wright also extended his hit streak to nine games.
