Pre-Game Look: Cubs vs. Diamondbacks

The Chicago Cubs will be looking to bounce back in game 2 after Friday’s 6-1 loss against the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Cubs are now 22 games under .500, and have a league low .343 winning percentage. Friday’s loss drops the Cubs to 10-27 on the road this season. Their work is definitely cut out for them, as the Diamondbacks have won 10 out of their last 15 games, including Friday’s game. The Diamondbacks are top ten in runs, batting average, and slugging percentage.
Cubs starter Paul Maholm will be taking the mound for Saturday night’s game. Maholm is 4-5 with an ERA of 4.88. Maholm has not recorded a win in his last seven starts after winning his previous four. The Cubs offense continues to have its problems as they have only scored two runs combined in the past three games after scoring 12 runs against the White Sox on Monday.
The Diamondbacks will be starting righty Ian Kennedy. He is 5-7 with a 4.13 ERA. The biggest issue for Kennedy has been his lack of run support from his offense. Overall he has pitched well, but in eight out of his last ten starts, the offense has only scored three runs or fewer. Each outing resulted in a Diamondbacks loss. Hopefully for the Cubs this trend will continue, but the Diamondbacks have scored 29 runs in the past three games.
