Josh Tomlin bombs out in the bronx

Josh Tomlin struggled right from the start in the Tribe’s six run loss against the Yankees in New York tonight. In his 3 innings of work he gave up 1 walk; 6 hits, 3 of which were homeruns including back to back homers from Robbie Cano and Nick Swisher. Tomlin never really had his stuff out there today and had thrown 35 pitches by the end of the first inning, 60 by the end of the second inning, and 80 by the end of the third. Tomlin’s curve ball wasn’t doing much and he hung it numerous times today including one to Cano that ended up in a solo shot blast to centre and left. Tomlin pitched 50 strikes on the day and only gave up one walk but threw too many pitches down broadway to be successful against the power bats of the Yankees.

Scott Barnes was very good coming in to relieve at the start of the 4th inning and seemed to trouble the Yankees offence only giving up 1 hit; 1 walk; and 1 earned run in 2 & 2/3 innings with 3 strikeouts. Scott handed over to Esmil Rogers in the 6th inning with 2 outs and a runner at third, Esmil didn’t disappoint finishing the inning with a strikeout, one of the two he would throw in 1 & 1/3 innings of work. Esmil gave up one hit and one walk before handing over to Jeremy Accardo to pitch the 8th and final inning. Accardo got one strikeout as he sat down the side in order.

The offensive side of the scorecard didn’t look much better for Cleveland with Shin-Soo Choo the only batter to get 2 hits and again led the tribe with the bat today. Jason Kipnis did his bit also to help out the tribe with a walk and a Sac Fly that scored Choo and the Indians only run for the game in the 8th inning. Johnny Damon hit a double to left in the top of the 7th to continue his good form as of late.

Carlos Santana had a tough day both at and behind the plate fouling off a couple of pitches into his leg and also wearing a few behind the plate and I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets a rest tomorrow and will definitely be needing some ice tonight. In the field Casey Kotchman impressed with some hot glove work at first base as did Cabrera at shortstop to continue his great form in the field.

The Yankees Hiroki Kuroda dominated Cleveland today striking out 6 batters through seven innings. Cleveland could only manage to get two walks, five hits and one earned run off of him in his 7 innings from the bump. The Yankees then turned to Rapada and Garcia who were perfect to finish the game pitching one inning each. Dewayne Wise made an impact on offense today with his 2 run homer in the second inning and an RBI triple in the sixth.

The Tribe will be hoping that Jason Masterson can keep up his good form tomorrow when he matches up against the Yankees Phil Hughes, who has been rolling of late with 6 wins and 3 losses in his last 10 starts with 4.19 ERA, although he did drop his last start to Atlanta. Where as Jason Masterson has gone 4 wins and 4 losses in his last 10 starts with an ERA of only 3.34. He was the in form pitcher during the Interleague games and Cleveland will need him to continue to preform tomorrow. Cleveland bats will need to get hot quick if they are to have any chance of getting the win as the Yankee bats have been impressive as of late and doesn’t seem to be about to stop any time soon. It looks like Cleveland will have it all ahead of them tomorrow hopefully they can turn todays loss around.
