Offense is bad, pitching staff is getting worse

During last season’s matchups between the Baltimore Orioles and the Cleveland Indians, the Indians took five of seven games, and the two games they lost were at Camden Yards. Unfortunately the home field advantage did not help the O’s this time because now the Indians, with the help of the O’s below par performance in both batting and pitching, snap a five game losing streak with a 7-2 victory.
Baltimore has now lost three in a row, and have lost seven of their last nine. In the past three games the O’s have been outscored by their opponenets 27-6, this adds to their record for when they have three or less runs to 11-25 on the year. The Orioles offense has not been producing many runs like they have been in the past. In the past 12 games they have produced three or less runs in ten of them.
Chris Davis, who broke his 29-game hit streak last night is still 1-33 as he went 0-4 tonight. The only upside of the O’s offense tonight was the shortstop J.J. Hardy hitting a home run, driving in the O’s only two runs. It was end to Hardy’s 72 at-bat without a homer drought, his last homer was back on June 8th against the Phillies. On another note second baseman Roberts is on a 15 at-bat without a hit slump.
Pitching for the O’s has been noticeably down to almost rock bottom in the past 11-12 games. Some of the pitchers have been pitching better than they have but have still lost due to some bad fielding and lack of offense such as Jake Arrieta and Brian Matusz, and others have not been performing to their usually levels such as Jason Hammel and Wei-Yin Chen. In the past three games the pitching staff has surrendered eight homers. Pitchers for tomorrow’s matchup of the Orioles and the Indians will be Jake Arrieta for the O’s and Derek Lowe for the Indians at 7 pm.
