Orioles pitcher Chris Tillman made his first start of the season in Wednesday afternoon’s game (a.k.a the 4th of July) after being called up from Triple-A Norfolk. While in Norfolk Tillman went 5-1 with a 1.96 ERA in his last six starts, and has not pitched in the majors since back in 2011 when he went 3-5 with a 5.52 ERA for the O’s before being sent back down to Norfolk. Tillman’s career record in the majors is now 8-15 with this 4-2 victory over the Seattle Mariners giving the O’s the series win and a two game winning streak.

Tillman was called up from Norfolk earlier this week to add depth in the rotation after the O’s decided to send down pitchers Brian Matusz and Tommy Hunter to Norfolk. Coming into this game with a 1-0 record versus Seattle in his career with a 1.50 ERA, Tillman had no trouble handcuffing the Mariners for his first Major League win of 2012. He has done very well against the American League West teams going 3-1 against them, now 4-1 with this win.

Two players got revenge on their old team in this game: Chris Tillman and Adam Jones. They were all part of the Erik Bedard trade of February of 2008 in which the Orioles received Jones and Tillman along with three other players from the Mariners in exchange for Bedard, who currently pitches for the Pittsburgh Pirates. Adam Jones launched a solo home run to the upper deck of Safeco Field for his 20th home run in the second inning.

Starting pitcher for the Mariners in this game Hector Noesi came into this game with a 1-1 record against the O’s overall. He was the losing pitcher in this game giving him a 2-11 record on the season with that 11th loss leading the American League now, just in front of the O’s Brian Matusz (10). Noesi has now lost his last 5 starts, and 8 of his last 11 (the 3 other games being no decisions). O’s get a nice 4th of July win and now travel tomorrow to Los Angeles on their West Coast road trip to take on the Angels for a four game series, game time 10 o’clock eastern time.
