Lidström to work for Wings as a scout

Posted By Chris Neubacher On Jul 7 2012 @ 10:38 am In Detroit Red Wings | No Comments

Nicklas Lidström will return next season to the Detroit Red Wings, however, he will not be back as a player, instead he will be a scout [1].

Lidström will remain in Sweden and will be in charge of monitoring the Red Wings Swedish prospects. This means he will be traveling around Sweden and will be scouting players like Calle Järnkrock and 2012 draft pick Rasmus Bodin. Nick said that he will return to the US multiple times during each year for sponsership events and team events. Hint about the Alumni Game at the Winter Classic maybe?

In an interview with the Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet [1], he talked about what he has been doing the last couple of weeks and also talked about potentially working with the Swedish hockey federation during the 2013 Hockey World Cup. In the interview Nick said that he has been approached over 10 times about working for TV in Sweden, being an “Expertkommentator”, which is a guy who chimes in with information and feeds off of the play by play announcer during a game. He also reinstated the obvious as he fully believes that fellow Swede Henrik Zetterberg should take over as the captain of the Wings.

Lidström also stated that he doesn’t regret retiring from hockey and feels that it was the right decision to make.

If you know Swedish I highly recommend you give the whole article a read.
