It has been clear for a while now that Tomas Holmström has played his last hockey for the Red Wings. There isn’t any roster space for the 39-year old Swedish forward who has spent all of his career in Detroit. It has been long believed that Homer would retire but some interesting news has surfaced regarding the forward.
According to Expressen, Holmström has received multiple offers to continue to play. The article does not specify whether the offers have been from NHL teams or from clubs in the Swedish elite league. It would really seem weird to see Homer dawn another NHL uniform considering he has played in Detroit my entire life. To further complicate things, Holmström said in the interview with Expressen that if he were to continue to play he would only play for a team in the US.
In the end, I truly believe that he will retire a Wing but he would bring something to another team. He has won 4 cups and has loads of experience.
