As the dust settles

Well now the draft is over and free agents are beginning to sign with teams we have a better look at the Washington Wizards roster. The Wizards made out great with drafting Beal. He will be a great shooter who can also do a bit of ball handling. His comparison by many is to Ray Allen but I wouldn’t go that far. Beal, playing in the summer league (a great way to get acclimated with your teams young players and bench over the summer), put up 22 points and teammates Chris Singleton and Jan Vesely put up 20 and 11 respectively. The Wizards lost 102-82 but in these leagues individual performances are sometimes more telling than the final score.

The Wizards now look to have a lineup of Wall, Crawford/Beal (Beal should have this spot as the season goes on), Ariza, Nene, and Okafor. Their bench has Vesely, Singleton, Booker, and of course, Andray Blatche. The Wizards have worked hard to rid themselves of Blatche via trade but have come up empty in that area thus far. I don’t know if they will find any takers. Blatch is overpaid, under performing, and he is immature, hardly a valuable asset for any team.

The Wizards are an intriguing team, definitely more excited than in the last couple of years. With John Wall saying hes in for the rebuilding process and the team making some moves to make the roster better now while rebuilding, it isn’t the worst time to be a Wizards fan.
