The L.A. Summer Pro League sponsored by AND 1 is in the final stretch of games before the playoffs begin July 29.

Here are the game results/recaps from the action on July 25 as compromised by the SPL VP of Operations, Walt Thompson.

Game 1 – BTG vs. Pro 4

Playing in their 2nd game of a back-to-back, the Texas based BTG Free Agent team led by Ricardo Lovelace, a 6’4 guard out of Salem International University scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead BTG to their first victory, 91 to 89, in a tightly contested game at the Summer Pro League.  Pro 4 was led by DJ Turner and Jason Starr who scored 15 and 14 points, respectively.  BTG’s record in the SPL is 1-2, while Pro 4 record drops to 1-4.

Game 2 – C1 vs Pro 1

This game became the featured game of the evening with 7’3, Keith Closs going up against 7’2, Ronnie Aguilar out of Colorado State.  On one possession in the 1st half, Keith Closs would block three of Aguilar’s shots back-to-back-to-back, causing a roar from the fans attending.  However, it was the guards that stole the show.  In the 4th, with three seconds left on the clock, Ashanti Cook of C1 would tie the game with a contested 20 foot jump shot sending the game into overtime. Team C1 would eventually prevail and go on to beat Pro 1 in overtime by a score of 75 to 71.  Both centers did make their presence known by altering many shots and pulling down 10 rebounds a piece.  Talented off-guard Robbie Robinson of Pro 1 led his team with 27 points and 13 rebounds.

Game 3 – IBL All-Stars vs FLOW

Fielding a team of top players from the International Basketball League, the IBL All-Stars found out how tough the SPL was by losing their first game in the league.  However, the IBL All-Stars bounced back by beating Team FLOW, 108 to 95 last night.  Jared Cunningham poured in 34 points and pulled down 10 rebounds for the IBL All-Stars and JoJo Morgan of Team FLOW had a productive evening — leading his team with 28 points and dishing out 6 assists in a losing cause.
