One of the biggest dogfights the Ravens have seen this preseason has been between veteran kicker Billy Cundiff and rookie Justin Tucker.
At their open practice at M&T Bank Stadium on Saturday Tucker showed the Raven Nation just what he’s about. Completing at sixty-three yard kick he got the crowd roaring. With over twenty thousand in attendance Tucker did exactly what he needed to do. Prove he’s capable under pressure, and at a long distance. So what did Cundiff do? He tried upping the stakes, kicking from sixty-five yards, falling short. Although he was perfectly aligned he missed getting it through the posts. What would have happened if Cundiff kicked from sixty-three yards we’ll never know, but man that would have been fun to see. Cundiff is definitely feeling this rookie’s fire. Tucker has missed two less kicks than Cundiff during pre-season.
So what will the deciding factor be? Who will the Ravens chose, and when? Chances are they’re both going to get a run at some pre-season games before a verdict is reached. Whoever can perform successfully and consistently will get the ticket. Whether it be Cundiff or Tucker you’re going to be seeing some extraordinary kicks this season from the Ravens.
