Early 2012-2013 outlook for 76ers

So far this offseason the Philadelphia 76ers have managed to pick up two quality draft picks, keep the team young and competitive and have watched star forward Andre Iguodala compete at a high level in the  London Olympic Games.

Last season ended in disappointment for the 76ers, losing to the Boston Celtics in Game 7 of a back and forth playoff series. Despite the loss, the 76ers proved their worth in the eastern conference. They are a talented, young, hungry team that will look to get back on track in 2013 and compete for an eastern conference title.

Returning to the team next season will be guard Evan Turner, the teams 2010 first round draft pick, who brings high energy and scoring to the team. Heading into his third season look for Turner’s production to improve drastically.

Thaddeus Young will be another leader on this team next season. Without a dominant low post presence the 76ers will rely on Young to not only contribute scoring but rebounding the ball on both the offensive and defensive ends of the floor.

Next season the 76ers will go as far as star forward Andre Iguodala goes. With Iguodala competing in the Olympics, the 76ers can be sure to get an in-shape player eager to make his mark on the league when the team reports for training camp. There have been trade rumors regarding Iguodala this offseason but much to the dismay (or pleasure depending on who your talking to) of Sixers fans, one can only speculate about rumors and no one can truly predict if a trade is definitely in the cards.

The Sixers have an outstanding upside being a young team that is loaded with talent. Head Coach Doug Collins will look to improve on last season’s triumphs and misfortunes. There is plenty of offseason that remains for NBA teams and players. Team rosters will continue to be shuffled around and injuries are likely to happen across the league but if I’m a 76ers enthusiast I certainly am optimistic about this upcoming season.
