Giants activate Hakeem Nicks from PUP

The New York Giants announced Monday that star wide receiver Hakeem Nicks has passed his physical and has been removed from the physically unable to perform list. League rules indicate that Nicks must sit out three days of padded practices and will be eligible to return to the field on Friday.
It has been nearly three months since the Giants had announced that Nicks had broken a bone in his foot and would require surgery. At the time, there was a twelve week estimated recovery period for Nicks. Nicks will be returning to practice as soon as he can but don’t expect him to suit up for this Saturday nights showdown between the Jets and Giants. With Nicks returning to practice with a little more than three weeks of practice left, all but indicates that he will be ready for the season opener, barring any setbacks.
Nicks has been one to be injury prone and has had foot and leg problems in the past. With so much time left until the season begins, the Giants would be smart to hold him back and ease him in slowly. Nicks is not the kind of player who needs practice reps with Eli Manning. They both have their timing, routes and speed up to par together. The most important thing the Giants can do is to make sure he continues his recovery carefully and avoid any further injuries.
