With defensive lineman Chris Canty on the PUP list, Linval Joseph and Marvin Austin having back problems, the next guy to step up and play with the first team defense was Shaun Rogers. Rogers was having a very impressive preseason and offseason with the Giants. Rogers was extremely excited coming to the Giants and being part of arguably the best defensive line in the league. He was so excited that he lost 50 pounds this offseason and come into camp in the best shape he has been during his career. Rogers has been playing in the league for 12 years and was hoping to have atleast one good year left in his career.
This has all come to a sad ending for Rogers as he was lost for the season today with a blood clot in his left calf. Rogers suffered the injury during practice prior to the game against Jacksonville last Friday. He did not think much of it, boarded the plane and played in that game. After experiencing some swelling in his leg, he was sent to the hospital where it was confirmed that he had a blood clot. Not only will this end Rogers’ 2012 season, it may also put an end to his 12 year NFL career.
