Bynum’s future still no guarantee

Yesterday the 76ers held a press conference for newly acquired pieces Andrew Bynum and Jason Richardson. The new 76ers players were greeted by shouts of excitement from fans waiting for the two to arrive at Constitution Center to address the media.

Andrew Bynum, who will be the focal piece of the 76ers team next season, seemed pleased and a bit surprised by the level of applause he was given by the fans of Philadelphia. The 24 year old, two- time NBA champion, was all smiles and full of positivity as he addressed the Philadelphia media.

The media questioned both players on their contributions to the team this upcoming season. Jason Richardson (acquired from Orlando), who praised the skill level and potential of new teammate Bynum, said he looks to bring a veteran attitude to a young team. Richardson said he’ll look to take lessons learned from long time veteran teammate Grant Hill and apply them to this young 76ers squad.

The biggest question of the night, addressed to Bynum, was whether or not the 7’1 center would sign an extension with the team or test the free agent market at the end of next season. When asked yesterday about his plans, Bynum replied by saying “My time here (Philadelphia) has been great and I’m looking forward to making this my home”. The comment was followed by a roar of aberration from 76ers fans.

The press conference yesterday went as well as anyone could have hoped. Bynum’s replies to all the questions addressed his way seemed sincere and positive. The 76ers organization and fans are hoping that Bynum will make good on his comments and remain with the team for the long-term.

This season Bynum will enter the last year of his contract and unless he signs an extension with the 76errs, he will become a free agent. Bynum, who stands to make the most money for his value as a free agent, most likely will wait till the end of next season to begin talks and negotiations about his future.
