Former RB Clinton Portis has retired as a Redskin. Portis leaves the Redskins as their 2nd leading rusher in team history. He was released by the Redskins in February of 2011, but that was about it for him. Portis as all fans remember was the most flamboyant and exciting Redskin. My favourite memory of Clinton was after Sean Taylor’s death when Portis scored a TD and pulled up his jersey to show Sean’s jersey #. It was very touching.
Portis leaves the NFL ranked 27th all-time in rushing yardage with 9,923 yards.
“Clinton provided excitement from the very first time he touched the ball as a Redskin and we were lucky to witness every ounce of energy, effort and passion he has given ever since,” Redskins Owner Daniel M. Snyder said. “We have been through a lot both on and off of the field and we would like to wish him and his family the very best. He will always be a Redskin and go down as one of the franchise’s all-time greats.”
HTTR Clinton!
About the Author
Written by Mercedes Green
I lived in Greene County Virginia for about 5 years of my childhood. This span of time was enough to imprint the love of the Washington Redskins (and hate of the Dallas Cowboys) into my life forever, even though I am Canadian and still live in Canada. I am in no way an expert on sports, football, or even the Redskins, but I do absolutely adore them, their fans and their home state(s).
My favourite Redskin is and will always be Darrell Green (not because we share the same last name lol). I've adored Chris Cooley since he joined the team from the 2004 draft and love London Fletcher.
Hail to the Redskins! See you October 30th in my home town of Toronto.
