Experts and analysts consistently say that the third preseason game is a good rendition of what the team will look like going into week one. If this is true, the Patriots are not going to go undefeated again.
First, the Pats defense. Josh Freeman is a very average QB. He is probably in the top twenty five in the league, maybe top twenty. But he drove down the Pats first string throats on the first drive of the game. The Patriots cannot let this happen.
Brady already has enough pressure on him without a running game, and always playing from behind isn’t doing him any favors either. It seems as if the Pats played from behind in nearly half their games last year. I am not going to say last years wins were lucky ones, but comeback wins don’t come too easy.
Brady cannot be concentrating on come back victories because he has to focus on staying upright and healthy. The offensive line was not protecting to their full potential. Brady took a viscous shot that forced a fumble. The pressure also caused him to throw a pick six. Brady has some rust on him and was not getting the ball out very quickly, but better protection is needed.
In the end, I still don’t put much value into these games. It does not matter what the experts say, Brady was not in for four quarters and that is all that matters. The Bucs will be below five hundred and the Pats will be Super Bowl contenders, but this game, and Brady’s hit, sure were scary.
