Giants trim roster to 75 players

The New York Giants needed to remove 15 players from their active roster in order to reach the NFL’s roster limit of 75 players Monday morning.
Two players, who had offseason knee surgery and have yet to practice, defensive tackle Chris Canty and tight end Travis Beckum, were placed on the reserve/physically unable to perform list. Both will miss the first six games of the season.
Fourth round draft pick Brandon Mosley was placed on season-ending injured reserve with an ankle injury.
The team waived 11 players: tight end Ryan Purvis, defensive tackle Carlton Powell, defensive back Chris Horton, wide receiver Julian Talley, wide receiver Brandon Collins, tight end Christian Hopkins, defensive back Brandon Bing, defensive back Jojo Nicolas, running back Joe Martinek, tackle Joel Reinders, and defensive tackle Oren Williams.
NFL rules state that Canty and Beckum can be activated the day after the sixth regular season game. The team wil then have 21 days to reevaluate the players before making a decision to either active, terminate, or keep the players on injured reserve/PUP list.
The next cut is on Friday at 9 p.m. All teams must trim their rosters down to the regular season limit of 53 players.
